Nail Discoloration …

Sometimes we can experience discoloration with some clients nails. This usually happens when we use white or really light colors gels or Gelpolish, but not with all clients. What to do with it ?

Discoloration of light products can be caused by numerous things. Clients who smoke will always have problems with discoloration, also at their fingertips. The nicotine penetrates into the skin or into the top layer of the artificial product, resulting in yellow/brown stains.

You can prevent this by using cuticle oil two or three times a day, which will form a barrier that will make it more difficult for stains to penetrate.

Discoloration can also result from the product reacting to UV light (example: sun light, sunbed), which means that the color will fade or appear yellow. You can prevent this by finishing the nails with a product which hs a high-quality UV filter (visible as the blue glow in the gel or top gel)

Magnetic Nail Design offers variety of top coats.

The traditional Base & Top Coat a great choice in most cases. It does not contain any additional UV filters and is therefore extremely well-suited for application over dark colors or for clients who don’t want blue illuminating nails when going to events where black lights are used. We recommend Soak Off Top Gel when you require strong UV protection because your client is going on vacation, for example, or because your client enjoys frequent tanning bed sessions or comes into contact with bright light. This product, which is fully comparable to Base & Top Coat, contains a high concentration of UV filters which will keep light colors more stable. However, this UV filter is not such a great choice when used over dark colors; it could give somewhat purplish tint.

When a combination of factors are at play, like when the client is a smoker and goes on vacation often , then a combination of regular cuticle oil application and sealing colors with Soak Off Top Coat would be best. Finally, you can also choose to finish Gelpolish with a traditional Top Gel , in other words, from a jar. This product also contains a strong UV filter and is absolutely non-porous, compared to Gelpolish products. One more thing: when client uses strong cleaning products, the Base & Top Coat or the Soak Off Top Gel will be affected in the same way as when one soaks the nails in acetone. This will increase the nails’ porosity and colorants will penetrate deeper into the nails. This is why we always recommend the use of gloves for cleaning.
